Signal Update and prayer request.

Because of the weather we have not been able to get onto the tower at Pico Peak.

Our engineer and a tower climber were at Pico Peak 10 days ago to repair

the transmitter for 91.7 WGLV. Though they had a replacement part for the

transmitter they found the transmit antenna and the microwave dish were

greatly damaged. The microwave dish was hanging on to the tower by one

bolt and basically swinging in the wind.

It appears the transmit antenna can be repaired but the microwave dish is damaged

beyond repair. A new microwave dish has been ordered and the parts needed to repair

the transmit antenna will be picked up on Monday. Plans now are for a trip back up to

Pico Peak on Wednesday and Lord willing we will be back on the air on the four signals

affected by this problem.

F.Y.I. 91.7 sends the signal to 91.9 Putney, and the two translators at Ascutney (91.1)

and Quechee (96.3) so when 91.7 is off these other signals are affected.

Please pray for our engineer and the tower climber’s safety and that all of the necessary

parts and pieces that are being installed will work. We are sorry for being off the air

especially for this length of time. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

Remember if you have broadband with your internet you can listen to The Light Network

from our web site.

We had a busy Sharathon again this year. Thanks to everyone who called and sent their pledge cards in. As you know we are primarily listener supported. About 2/3 of our budget needs to be met with donations from our listeners. Please consider helping us if you could. If you have any questions about our finances please call and ask for Ric McClary. God Bless you as you give to The Light Radio Network.

By now you should have received the Light’s Sharathon 2008 letter and pledge card. If you have not received it yet it’s possible you are not on our donor list. We sure would like to add your name to our list of supporters so please let us know that you want to be included. Sharathon is October 2nd and 3rd. Wednesday the first will be set aside for a day of Praise and Thanksgiving to the Lord for Christian radio. We trust Christian radio and specifically The Light is important to you. Thanks for supporting your hometown Christian radio station, The Light Radio Network.

Thank you so much for helping us with the Trans World Radio European transmitter upgrade. Over the last couple of days we have heard from a couple dozen of you who have graciously donated finances for the TWR transmitter modification. We figured that with the total upgrade costing about $200,000.00 to reach 15-million more people that is about 1 and 1/3 cents per person. Our listeners have contributed about $3000.00 which will reach 230,000 people. Praise The Lord! Thanks again for your help and God Bless you for giving to The Lord’s work in southern Europe and North Africa.

Our Trans World Radio trip started with a visit to the Huguenot Prison in southern France and to the Protestant Martyrs museum. I have to admit I did not know much about the persecution that was inflicted on the Protestants in France. There is a lot of this history available on line if you care to know more. for example check out this link.

We visited some pretty incredible transmitter sites that broadcast the Gospel through the ministries of Trans World Radio.

North Africa is dominated by the Muslim faith but the message of Jesus Christ is making it’s way to many people through the efforts of Trans World Radio. I hope that will consider helping the Light Radio Network in a project to upgrade a transmitter so it can reach millions more people in North Africa. We will focus on this opportunity on the morning show and throughout the day on June 4th and 5th.

For more pictures of the trip please look at our picture gallery on this web site. May God bless you as you help us reach more people with the Good News of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Our listener pledge total as of January 3rd, 2008, is $171,624. That brings us to 61% of our goal of $280,000.

Donations can be made directly from this web site. You can also call us at 866-878-8885 or send us your donation to P.O. Box 8310 Essex, Vermont 05451 or stop by our office during regular business hours, 8am to 4pm Mon-Fri. We are located at 140 Main street Essex Junction, Vermont 05452

Even though our two days of sharathon have come and gone we are still hoping to hear from you with an encouraging financial gift. As of Friday, December 28th the total amount pledged is $169,044. We are about 60% of the way towards our goal. Praise The Lord!

It’s no secret that it is very expensive to run a radio station today. Our annual cost of operation is $420,000. We receive approximately $70,000 in support from area businesses and churches (Vision Partners) which in return receive “recognition announcements”. In addition we receive approximately $70,000 from paid programs. For example some ministries pay us a fee for their 15 minute or half hour program. Other ministries may give us a “share” of their proceeds from donations received from our listening area. That leaves us with a need for at least $280,000.00 in donations from our listeners.

In 2006, our lease payments for the broadcast tower sites increased considerably. Salaries for our staff have also risen to keep up with the cost of living. We also had to upgrade a few critical computers this year. However, donations have not matched our cost of operation. It is difficult to imagine how we can “cut” any more from the budget without harming the overall sound of the radio station. We have a very small but dedicated staff who understand that we have a huge challenge to undertake here in the Northeast. I have heard it said that New England and New York are a “tough row to hoe”. That is true but I believe there are many faithful Christians who believe in Christian radio and are willing to help in any way they can to keep Christian radio strong in the Northeast. Would you please consider helping us at this time? The Lord is faithful and has taken care of us for many years. We trust that He will continue to do that through the generosity of faithful listeners like yourself. This years theme for sharathon is “Changing Lives”. Please help us to broadcast the Good News of Jesus Christ through teaching programs and solid Christian music and together we will be partners in seeing lives change.

In His grip,

Ric McClary
