What an experience! I went to Soulfest this past Saturday with my friend and bandmate, Brian, and we had a great time. While we were there, we checked out the various ministries that had displays in the tents - like World Vision, Mercy Ships, The Fold Family Ministries, etc. Because the crowd there is expected to be primarily youth, there were a number of Christian colleges represented, too. Something Brian was looking over since his daughter is going to be graduating high school soon. Naturally, we had to pick up a few t-shirts and goodies for the folks back home, too.

We bumped into Deb, one of our listeners (obviously, as she was sporting the always elegant and totally stylish “Concert For The Light” t-shirt) and had a chance to talk with her and snap this photo. Listen this week for Deb’s comments on the Good Morning Radio Show.

The music was, as expected, awesome. I saw a few bands I’d never seen or even heard of before. I’ll never forget Stellar Kart’s bass player, flyin’ Brian, who played maniacally while jumping up in the air and running all over the stage.  We heard an artist named Dayna Varga with her band (remember that name). She did a positively awesome song in her set that I wanted to add to The Light’s play list but, when I got to talk with her afterwards, she told me that the band hadn’t recorded it yet. I gave her my card and told her that, when that song was available, to be sure and get it to me. Stay tuned over the coming months for that one.

The two big events of the evening were Third Day and the horriffic rain storm and lightning show that came down just as Stellar Kart was finishing their set. And, boy, did it pour! We didn’t know if the whole rest of the night’s schedule would be cancelled or if they were going to wait out the storm so we ducked into some of the tents for shelter. Inside one tent, someone had set up a kareoke machine and a crowd of at least a hundered sang along with a girl who was mutilating the Newsboys’ “He Reigns,” an appropriate title in the deluge and everyone was having a great time!

We grabbed some french fries and ducked into the Fellowship tent where there were lots of people singing, talking, laughing - but nobody was complaining. At 8:30 they turned the lights back on, peeled the plastic sheets off of everything and began squeegeeing the water off of the main stage - the rain had stopped and the show was about to go back on.

We saw Rebecca St. James in a shortened set and then Mac Powell and Third Day came out and played to an enthusiastic crowd packed in elbow to elbow in their rain coats and makeshift garbage bag ponchos. Brian and I were both soaked to the bone, but we didn’t care, it was great.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!  That’s right, and this time I won’t be alone; Ann Roman is coming with me and we’re headed south! On Thursday we’ll be visiting Claremont during the Good Morning Radio Show and then later, we’ll be hanging out with Rob Lotito in Keene during the Light Lunch Hour. Tune in for details as to where you’ll be able to find us and then be sure to come by and visit with us - we can’t eat all those donuts ourselves!
