If you listen to The Light much you will likely hear a reference to a local music festival called Soulfest. I for one, LOVE SOULFEST! It’s for your kids and it’s for you!
My introduction to the festival was through The Light as a listener (and bracelet winner), when I was homeschooling my young family. My oldest daughter, Brandalia, was about 15 wanted to go see her fave bands like Superchick, Barlow Girl, Toby Mac, Jars of Clay and so we let her go. She came back so filled up with new understanding of how much God loves her, about the plight of the lack of water for so many in developing and 3rd world countries, human trafficking, teen suicide, abortion issues and identity. She LOVED the Incredible shows. Music that encouraged her and gave her strength to endure the challenges of being a teen.
For my second daughter, Emily, got into the tech side of things and loved the production and landed an internship to learn lights, sound and production. She volunteered at the Festival when she was in Middle School and met great band members, made new friends in her area of service. Her birthday ALWAYS falls on a Soulfest day, Fun times…
Daughter number three, Olivia, has been part of the tribe and going for almost as long as she can remember. Helping me haul equipment up to the media tent to interview the bands, and running to the coffee tent to keep the caffeine rolling… and getting pics taken with her fave bands in return. She has made deep and lasting relationships as a result.
Then number four, Scarlett, born 14 days to Soulfest (emergency cesarean) and was part of the interview tribe right out of the gate. She doesn’t know life outside of the fun chaos that ensues at the end of every July into the first week of August.
From our friends at Soulfest and NewSound:
Each year, the True Love Pledge is presented to all who attend SoulFest. Our hope is that this Pledge will help to re-center and inspire all who take it. As we take the True Love Pledge, we will understand that this love is already at the root of us. If we daily allow True Love to transform us, our capacity to love ourselves, changes. Our capacity to love those who live under our roof changes. Our capacity to love our coworkers, our neighbors, anyone who crosses our path, changes. Our capacity to look out after the least of these and stand up against injustice changes. This change is an increased capacity to live as we are intended to live, as Jesus called us to live. True Love is Action. It is the ongoing transformation that brings our lives into focus. God’s Love is the True Transformer; God’s love is Unconditional.
I want to live from the inside out as a soul-connected, risk-taking follower of Jesus. With the help of God and my friends, I pledge to live the revolution Jesus started, one day at a time… because eternity begins today
See ya there~heather
