We take so much for granted in America. Pumpkin spice lattes. Chick fil a. Ugg boots. I will never view my rights the same way after hauling my own water today. This is the reality of so many poor Africans. I even broke a heel! And also it broke my heart. Now I think I understand what it means to be broken in order to be made whole. I’m not going to lie, I was frustrated. But I got a tan and did even more soul searching. There is ALWAYS a silver lining!! And always an adventure. #africa #saviorbarbie #brokenheel #brokenheels #tan #tanforlife #whitesavior #inthenameofjesus #inthenameoflove #longwalk #revelation #water #waterislife #adventure #followme #forlikes #likes #likeme #lesson #lessonlearned #silverlining #worthit
I saw this parody account on Instagram a couple of months ago, and then observed lots of blog posts about it. Not gonna lie, I laughed, a lot! Because it is really close to the truth on so many levels.
So the deal is someone came up with “Barbie Savior” and instagram’ed her “encounters in Africa” including heaps of hash-tagging.
So even as we laugh at the ridiculousness, I realize that sometimes we are barely an inch away from being Barbie Savior. Maybe realizing that Americans are in the top 25% for wealth in the world, causes us to have feels for doing something good for the rest of the world.
It is awesome that we would be motivated to serve on a mission trip or raise funds for an area that is suffering disease or drought. Nonetheless, we are as desperate and impoverished if we don’t have Jesus in our lives and can sometimes cover over the “need” for a savior. It seems we can be little saviors and take care of ourselves with our own means. But au contraire…
Galatians 6:3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
God is our provider! He loves us and is the one who actually provides for us, who meets our needs and without whom we would be desperate and desolate! Let’s stay humble!
I’d share more, but I want to get the perfect sunset filter so I can selfie my devo time while sipping some dank latte! Peace~heather
