This describes how I felt as I read the story on Sunday morning at about 6am. Five kids, 16 years old, gone. In a senseless act and tragic outcome, our whole region is rocked. In one breath we might have been arguing politics and in a moment, we become sober with the reality of life and death.
We are created to be relational, to care for others, to grieve when someone experiences loss. This is a tragedy beyond comprehension, for us. This is rocking our boat.
Yet, all around the world, people are experiencing painful circumstances from hurricane devastation, disease, racial tension, famine, war, rape, poverty and so much more. Sill, we entertain trivial arguments and casting pearls about hearsay, gossip, election spin and often with a piety as if we have it all figured out.
We don’t have it figured out! We need God! We need Jesus; we are hopeless without the presence of the One who crafted our personality and physical form in His image. The One who spoke all of creation into existence. The one who Loves us.
So for those grieving, we have the truth and comfort from the Word that He is near the brokenhearted. For those who think they have the answer, only God does. For all of us, let’s love and lift the hurting to the one who can heal, let’s be about His work.
